Rabbi Horowitz described how his out of the box/creative view of things can be useful in real life, but doesn’t exactly make for a model student. I have a number of children who (b”H) have many great qualities & will iy”H make fine adults but somehow have to make it through school (ideally with their self esteem in tact). Can you give us some tips on managing the school system with these kids?

I would suggest that you break down the components of the “out-of-the-box/creative” personality that makes school challenging and address them one at a time.
1) If your child’s creative mind has him/her blurting (creative) things he/she just thought of while the teacher is in middle of a lesson, talk about “timing is everything,” or perhaps give your child a pile of index cards to write down creative ideas and give to the teacher at a later time.
2) if it’s a matter of managing the flow of paper (homework, class assignments), think about putting systems in place that help organization….
