Mother of Abuse Survivor (Chassidish)
Note of Introduction to from Rabbi Yakov Horowitz
We are honored to have among our forum leaders this extraordinary, heroic mother who raised a son who suffered the horrific trauma of childhood abuse.
Her son, who is currently a well-adjusted adult, went through a hellish periods in his life, abandoning religious practice and exhibiting anti-social behaviors – including heavy drug use.
His amazing mother never gave up on her son – who lived at home even during their most challenging phase of his life.
She remains anonymous to protect the privacy of her family members, but I felt strongly that she has so much to offer parents who are undergoing similar challenges.
I greatly admire her accomplishments, and am deeply grateful that she accepted my invitation to serve as a forum leader.
(Please note that there are two forum leaders who raised abuse victims – one chassidish and the other modern Orthodox. Because there are many cultural differences that deeply affect how children are raised, I thought it would be helpful for each of them to run an individual forum.)
