Andrew (Avi) Lauer, Esq.
Institutional Protocols and Strategies
Mr. Lauer serves as Vice President for Legal Affairs, Secretary and General Counsel of Yeshiva
University. In this capacity, he serves as a member of the Senior Leadership of the University
and is responsible for all legal matters pertaining to the University and its affiliates within the
United States and abroad.
Prior to his appointment at Yeshiva University, Mr. Lauer was a Partner at an international law
firm where he maintained a large and diverse practice, with a specialty in Labor and
Employment Law. Mr. Lauer also established and maintained an extensive Israel practice
working with many Israeli owned and/or affiliated corporations. Mr. Lauer also served as Senior
Employment Counsel in the Office of General Counsel of PricewaterhouseCoopers Consulting
and as Assistant General Counsel of Deloitte & Touche USA. Prior to Deloitte, Mr. Lauer was
an Assistant District Attorney in the Kings County District Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn, New
York, where he conducted numerous trials and investigations and was assigned to several
bureaus including the elite Trial Cadre unit of the Homicide Bureau.
Mr. Lauer is a frequent speaker and lecturer, has published numerous articles and has conducted
training and seminars in various areas of business, communal leadership and the law throughout
the United States and abroad. He serves on the Audit Committee of the National Association of
College and University Attorneys (NACUA). Mr. Lauer also serves as a religious court Judge for
the Beth Din of America with a particular focus on matters pertaining to corporate, commercial
and employment law. Mr. Lauer has also served as an Adjunct Professor of Management and
Entrepreneurship at the Sy Syms School of Business of Yeshiva University.
As an active lay leader, Mr. Lauer has served on the Executive Board of several charitable
organizations in the New York area. He is a former President of the Young Israel of Woodmere,
as well as a former Chairman of the Board and Honorary Past President of the Hebrew Academy
of the Five Towns and Rockaway, a former member of the Human Resources Committee of the
Orthodox Union, a member of the Advisory Board and a former founding Vice President of
Kulanu and Kulanu Torah Academy, a member of the Executive Board of the Beth Din of
America and a member of the Board of Trustees, Executive Committee and Finance/Audit
Committee of Camp Morasha. Mr. Lauer is also a member of the Audit Committee and Long
Island Board of Ohel Family and Children’s Services. Mr. Lauer also served as pro bono counsel
to several organizations and not-for-profits including the Orthodox Union and Lincoln Center for
the Performing Arts.
Mr. Lauer lives in Woodmere, New York with his wife, Aleeza, and has four children.
